i’m getting some shading work done on a half-sleeve piece in a couple of weeks and i’m concerned about being out of boating for any amount of time afterwards.
to preserve the fresh ink, i’d be sure to grease up well with a&d ointment, wear a long sleeved drydeck, and stick to squirting so i wouldn’t be wearing a pfd (no straps to rub my shoulder). the tattoo would remain dry.
is that ok, do you think, if i give it one week’s rest after the fresh tattoo work before i start paddling?
thoughts?
thanks!
i’ve already postponed this work twice in the past due to rain.

I have three tattoos and never worried about getting them wet right after they were done. I think preventing anything like your pfd straps from rubbing on them is a good idea but in my opinion you will be fine to keep kayaking. I think the sun is worse for your tattoos than kayaking. Just make sure to shower after the river to remove any bacteria from the river water.

right on. i’m not worried about the wet factor, just the rubbing factor because i don’t wanna smudge any of it. i imagine the top of the shoulder, shoulder blade, and front of the shoulder is prone to getting damaged?

Well you can’t really "smudge" a tattoo, it’s pretty permanent. You’d have to really rub to create scar tissue that would distort the look of the tattoo. Just stick to the squirt boating for a couple weeks so there’s no pfd and I think you’ll be fine.

I would be more concerned with keeping it out of the sun, I hear it can fade new ones

thanks, guys. the way i’m looking at it is, if you can go snowboarding a week after, why not paddling with a good drytop on?
